William "Bill" Mangin

With his family by his side, William "Bill" Mangin, 93, passed away during the afternoon of September 18, 2025. He was born in Washington on December 3, 1931, the son of Cletus and Bonnie (Singleton) Mangin. On October 17, 1959, Bill married Virginia Mae (Smith) Mangin and together they created a loving home for themselves and their children until Virginia's passing on October 10, 2013. After high school, Bill went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He was a graduate of DeVry University in Chicago with a degree in electronics. Bill was retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center (commonly known as Crane) where he was a division manager. He also ran Mangin's Market for about sixty years. Bill was a man of many talents and interests. He considered farming and fishing his hobbies. He was known to be a voracious reader - poring over several books on many topics each week. Bill was a dedicated family man and a devout Catholic. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Bill also leaves eleven great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary Jane Bottoms of Washington. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie and Cletus Mangin; his wife, Virginia Mangin; his daughter, Susan Bennett; and sister, Virginia Bradley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Bill's memory to Our Lady of Hope for the Bereavement Committee, 315 NE 3rd Street, Washington, Indiana 47501. Visitation for Bill Mangin will be 9:00 am-10:50 am, Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 315 NE 3rd Street, Washington, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Bill Mangin immediately following the visitation on September 23, 2025, beginning at 11:00 am, also at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Father Paul Ferguson will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery. The Washington American Legion and VFW will accord military honors at the gravesite.
